About Southern California Edison
As one of the largest electric utilities in California, Southern California Edison has a strong commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. For example, the electric power Southern California provides includes more alternate and renewable energy (16.7%), from a greater variety of resources, than nearly any other utility in the world. Southern California Edison has been active in efforts to improve Southern California air quality since the 1940s. SCE is also an active donor to community and educational causes. SCE employee volunteers annually donate more than 700,000 hours of work to community and non-profit organizations. An emphasis on diversity strategies, operational goals and accountability helped SCE maintain its rank in the top tier of Fortune magazine's annual list of the top 50 companies in America for ethnic minorities, placing high on the list at number eight.
Two divisions within SCE are directly supporting CleanTech Los Angeles, namely, the Technology Research Incubator Outreach Program (TRIO) and the Customer Energy Efficiency and Solar Division.
The Technology Research Incubator Outreach Program (TRIO)
The Technology Research Incubator Outreach Program (TRIO) is designed to nurture new innovative technologies from universities and investor firms through symposiums, training and support services. Participants will receive information to help understand the utility environment and tools necessary to develop cost effective energy efficiency, demand response and other Integrated Demand Side Management (IDSM) technologies or programs. TRIO is a statewide program offered by California’s investor-owned utilities and led by Southern California Edison.
SCE TRIO Contributions to Saving the Environment
SCE TRIO Program will help speed the availability of new innovative technologies and products into the market with Integrated Demand Side Management (IDSM) as its top priority.
Key Initiatives Connected to CleanTech LA
SCE Trio Program hopes to collaborate with CleanTech LA to help foster TRIO's goals of promoting early stage innovations. In doing so, SCE aim to help contribute to California's energy savings targets for the future.
